Now, there is an original musical taking center stage at 52 Sumner that brings this history home called “For Love! For Liberty!” written by Vana Nespor who shares her creative process.

52 Sumner’s 2026 winter lineup offers unique theater and music events in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The 52 Sumner arts and entertainment venue in Springfield has announced its first performances of 2026, featuring an exciting winter lineup of theater and music.

An array of unique performances will be offered throughout January and February at the historic Forest Park venue, welcoming new and returning shows.

“At 52 Sumner, our goal is to offer programming that reflects both artistic excellence and community connection,” said Angela Park, co-founder of Springfield Performing Arts Ventures Inc. “This winter lineup brings together history, romance, and music that spans generations. We are excited to welcome audiences back for performances that entertain, inspire, and bring people together.”

Kicking off the new year is an original musical titled “For Love! For Liberty! A New Musical About Henry Knox.” The production, held on Sunday, January 18, explores the life of General Henry Knox in a powerful and patriotic performance. The show will run twice at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

On Friday, February 13, community members are invited to a romantic evening at the “Candlelight: Valentine’s Day Show” at 6 p.m. Couples can enjoy stirring musical selections in a candlelit setting for a night to remember.

Also on February 13, Swifties can experience a new interpretation of their favorite songs at the “Candlelight: Tribute to Taylor Swift” at 8:30 p.m. Through creative musical arrangements of the renowned pop star’s greatest hits, fans will fall in love with these tunes all over again.

Returning to 52 Sumner by popular demand on Saturday, February 21, is “Big Yellow Taxi: A Tribute to Joni Mitchell.” Audiences look forward to this classic tribute that captures the distinct style of the singer-songwriter. The performance is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Closing out the winter 2026 season is “Whammer Jammer: Boston’s Own Tribute to The J. Geils Band.” On Saturday, February 28, at 7 p.m., this tribute band promises a high-energy night of rock and roll.

SPRINGFIELD — 52 Sumner, the arts and entertainment venue operated by Springfield Performing Arts Ventures Inc., continues its 2026 season with a winter lineup that blends original theater, intimate candlelight concerts, and beloved tribute performances.

Located in Springfield’s Forest Park neighborhood, the historic venue remains a gathering place where artistry, music, and community connection come together. From an original musical rooted in American history to an audience favorite tribute show returning by popular demand, the upcoming schedule offers something for theater lovers, music enthusiasts, and the broader community alike. Upcoming events include:

• “For Love! For Liberty! A New Musical About General Knox,” Sunday, Jan. 18 (two performances). Produced by Springfield Community Theater of Massachusetts, this original musical brings history to life through powerful storytelling and an inspiring score. The production explores the life and legacy of General Henry Knox, blending patriotism, personal sacrifice, and artistic expression in a compelling theatrical experience.

• “Candlelight: Valentine’s Day Show,” Friday, Feb. 13. This romantic evening features an intimate candlelit setting paired with moving musical selections, creating a warm and memorable Valentine’s Day experience for couples and music lovers alike.

• “Candlelight: Tribute to Taylor Swift,” Friday, Feb. 13. Swifties are invited to experience the music they love in a whole new light. Set within a sea of candlelight, this elegant concert reimagines Swift’s iconic songs through lush instrumental arrangements, creating an evening that is equal parts magical, nostalgic, and unforgettable.

• “Big Yellow Taxi: A Tribute to Joni Mitchell,” Saturday, Feb. 21. Returning by popular request, this acclaimed tribute honors Mitchell’s timeless music and poetic storytelling of. The performance has become a favorite among audiences for its authenticity, musicianship, and emotional resonance.

• “Whammer Jammer: Boston’s Own Tribute to the J. Geils Band,” Saturday, Feb. 28. Closing out the winter lineup is this high-energy tribute celebrating the iconic sound and spirit of the J. Geils Band. Audiences can expect an evening filled with classic hits, infectious energy, and a true rock and roll experience.

It’s 1775 in the dead of winter during the Revolutionary War. Henry Knox is ordered by George Washington to bring 59 cannons from captured forts on Lake Champlain to the army camp outside Boston. The successful deliver of the artillery is the stuff of legends turned into a musical: For Love! For Liberty!

We’re joined by the actors from the Springfield Community Theater bringing History to Life at the Springfield Armory.

SPRINGFIELD – Roxanne Gambill is celebrating this holiday season in an unforgettable way — putting on a production of “A Christmas Carol,” which her husband and daughter both play roles in.

“This is something that really only happens once in a lifetime,” Gambill said.

Gambill’s version of “A Christmas Carol,” which will be staged at 52 Sumner on Dec. 13, is based on the original novel written by Charles Dickens in 1843.

The play follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly old man who hates Christmas. He is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley, as well as the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future, through which he learns the true meaning of the holiday.
